You should have uniforms by Melissa, PA

i think you should have uniforms because it's easier for all the kids in the morning, there would be know racist comments, less money, everyone would feel equal, no one would be dressed like a inappropriately or have gang symbols on there clothes. listen im only 12 im just saying it would be way easier. and all u saying you cant express yourself thats untrue just tell your friends your clothes cant speak for you.

Kevin, PA

Are you praticly a teen? Uniforms Suck, they're unfconfort, able and besides my school has a fair dress code, the dress code is pretty simple. And I have no problem picking out clothes in the morning, I look forward to it as a bit of a challenge, I rather wear clothes that repesents me, Uniforms will only look like its trying to tell people that you are totally bbbooorrriiinnggg and too formal and a little clean freak or something like that, if my school had uniforms trust me noone and I mean noone will wear them. There will probably be a fire in the parking lot infront of the school with kids lighting up uniforms on fire

Cait, PA

Uniforms are the worst! you are obviously not a true teen and have no feelings to express yourself! The only reason you could possibly want uniforms is if you are a follower and try to do what others do!! I'm fourteen and my school has uniforms and you can still tell who the dirty kids are by looking at there bleeched shirts and stains!

Ebonique, NC

My opinion is that wearing diffrent clothes are good.To me it symbolizes my freedom and how my personality is.Even if we all wore uniforms there would still be racism, money problems and other conflicts that we will probably never be able to change.I myself am totally against wearing uniforms,I mean who wants to wear the same dull thing eveyday? My whole county has a policy called 'the dress code'.This policy prevents us studnts from wearing certain clothes which is okay until they start debating about uniforms.I don't know about you and others, but uniforms do not show the inside of us.If we can't express ourselves by what we wear, how will we?

Raven, TX

If you think uniforms would lower the number of racist comments, gang fights, and/or crimes in school, you might be right. However the violence would spread onto the streets where it is less unsupervised which would make going home from school(where it's highly supervised by adults)dangerous. If you put uniforms in schools to prevent violence, then why not to the country or the whole world. You see, nothing can stop violence, it's everywhere. So leave the schools without uniforms, where it's more safe then the outside.

Bubblue Bob, HI

Uniforms take away students rights of expression, and some people say that the only reason they have uniforms is so they can keep track of their students. What if a dangerous person posed as a teacher, because teachers didnt have to wear uniforms, and then harmed people. so thats why if students have to wear uniforms teachers should too

Eric, CA

Let me guess...you get straight A's, made Algbera when you were 11 and you have no life whatsoever...NO UNIFORMS EXPRESS HOW WE ARE!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU????Uniforms are boring and is the same all the time...we will wear uniforms when we are older so for now, we like no uniforms...anyways, if we buy uniforms, it costs more money and we can't wear the uniforms outside of school so it aint cheaper...

Paola, NY

I think that it would be much easier to have a uniform in school. I think that it would decrease violence in school, I'm not saying that it would stop it but i think it would lower it.In my school this girl put her avirex leather jacket in her locker and someone stole it, and this other girl had a fendi bag and got beat up because or it. It would also help your parents out with money. Instead of having to buy you a type of clothing like guess you could be getting something like armani. It would also stop people from competing against each other, and getting jealous. I dont think that it would stop me from being individual because clothing doesnt make up the way i am or my personality, and if i had to wear a uniform its not gonna stop the way i am. And lets just face it if we do have to wear a uniform to school their is really nothing we can do about it, cause if the majority vote to have uniforms in school then thats what it gonna happen. So if it does we have to deal with it!

Kaylea, IN

Im 12 too and i understand your point but....... In schools theres so many things you cant do why make clothes one of the things we cant decide for our self?

Millie, CT

you're totally right. i have too write an essay explaining why or why not kids should have to wear uniforms & i said that we should waer uniforms because i hate taking so much time to get ready. plus as long as uniforms aren't too fancy then kids may accually prefer to wear school uniforms. anyway, you can wear regular clothes on weekends. :)

Alie, OH

I think its a good thing to wear uniforms. Im 13, and though i dont wear a uniform right now, i will have to next year. When uniforms are worn, equality is created among the students. It can provide relief from competition from fashion. They make it much easier to get dressed in the morning. Uniforms help the school to look more orderly and neat..and most of you say that it takes away from you individuality, but that can be expressed in other things!Such as your school work.

Samantha, MD

U think schools should wear uniforms. I see some pretty disgusting stuff some times. If we did have uniforms, they would probably let us vote on what they look like. I think they would be cute. Any way, who wants to be thought of as trashy cuz the way you dress? Not me! If we have uniforms, then every one would be equal in clothes and nobody could tease them cuz they are wearing the exact same thing!!!!!!

Kat, UT

"If we can't express ourselves by what we wear, how will we?" well it is simple of course you have hundreds of choices--let us see...you can:draw, talk , write, the way you act(stupid.cool.punky.preppy.snotty.nice.grumpy. happy.{get my point?}),do you're hair, wear jewelry, you're shoes(platforms, sneekers),and plenty more.I went to a public school grades k-5th.half-way through fifth grade I left the school because of many reasons.one of which was that I would watch all of these shows on TV.These shows had the teens always wearing uniforms. Then I looked at my school and thought,"why can't our school have uniforms?" My mom found a good private school and put me and my older sister in.my older sister loved the school but left because they hadn't aquired vending machines quite yet. I stayed in . nobody picked on anyone!I was very pleased.as the years went by all of my friends kept asking me why I wouldn't come back to public school.they asked how I could stand the uniforms."it's all too boring, you have no choices!wearing the same thing every day!"they said.my answers were always the same:I like uniforms!they aren't boring!they're cute! you have plenty choices!you don't wear the same thing every day unless you choose to .we have different kinds of skirts, and skorts!we have at least three different kinds of shirts and different colors.we can wear our hair in any style.different kinds of socks.only on a certain day of the week do we all have to wear the same thing.the boys can wear shorts or pants. they also have different selections of shirts. to tell you the truth I wasn't too fond of uniforms at some times. But , you don't need to worry what to wear out of a huge closet of different clothes.you also don't have to stress on the question of"do these clash?"If you are going to spend a long time getting ready thenit won't count getting dressed or finding what to wear.in my last year in private school--just last year, the only people that complained were the new girls that had gone to public school all their life and had been taught that fashion was to die for, being thin was the coolest and wearing revealing clothes was the hottest-(hmm,wonder who taught them that.the fashion magazines perhaps?).well I'm turning fifteen soon, and this being my first year back in public school...frankly, I've seen more than I ever wanted to see!!!low collers, belly shirts, sleeveless shirts, low riding pants, skin tight clothes, minni skirts, etc. now, if I had never gone to public school before in my life I probably have walked right out of there the very fist day!like a very good and wise friend of mine said, "school is for learning not for showing off your new clothes!" how do you know if you do or don't like uniforms if you've never had them?!! ~Kat

Michelle, NY

i think uniforms are great! there repersent our school and i'm so much younger. i'm 9

Liss,Toronto, PA

I am 16, and i wear a uniform to school every day. I love wearing uniforms. It makes my decesion in the morning a lot easier. Their is no reason not to like uniforms, we have non- uniform days once a month and I look forward to them because i try and look extra-good! UNIFORMS ROCK! SO DOES CANADA:D

bopping penguin, --

i'm doing a report on the opposite thing so i disagree unifofms cost to much money and most uniforms make kids feel to grown up when we want to be kids for as long as possible:(

artur, --

Yo i think uniforms are juss rong and i got ato wrtie a chart expaling y kids should wear unifors

Bilal, VA

I think stdent should have uniforms becasue, there parents wont have problems of buying expensive clothes.

Michael C., CA

Uniforms don’t make the person. There has been studies proving that school with uniform polices seem to have improved academic skills of students because instead thinking about what to wear you would be thinking more about your education . Many people think that uniforms are more expensive then the clothes you would wear well it isn’t you spend more than a two thousand dollars on the casual clothes a year than you do with uniforms. The uniforms are also a much better style than the so-called fashion we see around the school campus such as jeans, XL baggy pants, Extremely tight tanktops, and XXL shirts that probably could be you used as extremely long curtains. Uniforms are also easier for frosh (freshmen) because they wont be discriminated for what they wear for every one will be wearing the same thing one way or the other. Also many people seem to have the idea that the clothes tell you their personality then it isnt true because if you had a good personality you wouldnt need certain types of clothes to tell others that. That is my opinion and for those against uniforms i totally respect your ignorance. : )

michelle, CA

Excuse me? I have been to both private and public schools--so which means i have had to wear uniforms in one school, and none in the other. Believe me--it is annoying as hell having to wake up in the morning to put on clothes that you HAVE to wear, or suffer the "consquences" I hate having to wear uniforms! They are uncomfortable, and while they may help reduce violence--here's a fact--You CAN'T ever get rid a violence. Never...if you're thinking i'm being a cynic, well, i'm just being truthful. There is no way you can get of violence completely in a world such as we have now. When i heard that i could wear anything i wanted in my public school--i nearly died of joy. Also, all the other students at my old school were boring as Hell, and rude as well...They were unexcepting and resentful. Did you say uniforms help reduce violence? NOT!!

Nicole, OH

I think that there should be school uniforms in every school. There will be less violnce. No one will be beated or made fun of for what they wear. Plus so much cheaper.

Larky sparky, PA

I am writing a speech on for and against school uniform but i have only began to question my own views on the rules that the goverment have set to all the schools. I think that pupils should have da right to wear wot they want if they dont have the chance to expresss themselves at school then how on earth r they gonna beable to out of school, although some people say that u dont have to have your own normal clothes to express yourself i do agree but when every1 has identical colours, style it looks dull and boring, if we had the chance to wear our own style of clothes then im pretty sure dat by the end of the week you would find it pretty hard to find a different set of clothes then last week as u would be wearing the same clothes everyweek!I would say for myself that i hate wearing school uniform but then again i couldnt cope with wearing the same stuff over and over again. Some people would say that they dissagree with me and thats fair enough but just think about all the hassle it would be without uniform!

Tatiana, VA

Well, i think that there should be uniforms in school. i mean im in 10th grade and figuring out what to ware the next day is tough. Ya you can say that clothes express who you are right?... but when you see gurl with a short miniskirt... tell me what is the first thing that pops into your head? dont say "what a nice outfit" cuz you noe that you think what a hooch right or am i wrong? not that she probably is one, but that is what us gurls think sometime. i noe cuz thats what i think if i dont noe that gurl, but if i did i wouldnt think that because i know she isn't. we only talk because we can. im not trying to say that dressing the way you want is worng, its just that you go to school to learn not to have a fashion show.

Amanda, DE

I have been wearing uniforms since I was in kindergarden and I have no problem with them. They don't show who you are but people should be able to tell who you are by how you behave not by how you dress. Uniforms keep everybody on a level basis and nobody gets made fun of if they dont have the newest or coolest clothes. Uniforms also keep you from being distracted in class. You dont have to worry about what everyone is wearing because you are all wearing the same thing. If you are wearing a uniform people except you for who you are and not for what you wear. When I wear my uniform I feel proud and like people look higly at me. I have never seen anyone go up to sombody and say I hate your uniform but I have seen people go up to others and say I hate your clothes. All of you who are being rude about your opinion on uniforms need to recognize that we have freedom of speech. You have your opinion on wearing uniforms and so do other people, so respect their opinions also.

Molly, CA

Well i argee with the part about everyone would feel equal, but i don't argee with it would be less money. Also what people wear can express the feeling.Im also 12 years old. molly

devin, NJ

i think uniforms woul stop kids who think they're cool from judging other people's clothes.

allie, WI

I have been a part of both worlds, going to a school with uniforms for 8 years and one without for 2 years. I learned to love uniforms because they really ct down on the amount of time it takes to get ready in the morning, and therefore you can sleep longer. They also take less brain power to coordinate in the morning, so you can take a bit longer to let your brain warm up. School uniforms also do not take away a person's individuality, but rather challenge it. It just takes a little more thinking to make yourself an individual. Uniforms should be in public schools, and no one has the right to say otherwise unless they've lived both worlds.
